The plan fits in with the firmer focus on effective monitoring of active cases and contact tracing, said the official.

New Delhi: The Delhi government is planning to conduct a sero-surveillance of about 20,000 people in the city as it firms up a new strategy against Covid-19, although the results of the sero-surveillance survey conducted by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) have yet to be made public.

“We will start sero-surveillance in Delhi through antibody testing to see how much of the population is exposed to the infection as of now,” said a senior government official, who did not wish to be identified.

The plan fits in with the firmer focus on effective monitoring of active cases and contact tracing, said the official.

Some microbiologists, however, said it would be a futile exercise given the results of the earlier survey were brushed under the carpet. “The government should release that data from the earlier survey first. What’s the point in having another survey when the earlier one is not made public?” a microbiologist said on condition of anonymity.
